While sailing around Antigua I saw a boat (about 45 feet) that had a platform on the stern that raised and lowered on two tracks attached to the transom. I took pictures of it and copied down the information for the manufacturer, but, of course, do not have that information with me right now. Other than the possible weight on the stern, it looked like a very good system. The platform is lowered just below the water surface and the dinghy is driven over the platform. The platform (presumably with its occupants) is then raised up to the deck level. If the dinghy were tied down properly, even a following sea that filled the dinghy with water would probably not dislodge the dinghy. Also, when the platform is not in use for the dinghy, it would make a great swimming/diving platform.
If there is interest I will look up the information and send it out. Does anyone else know of this devise? What have you experienced, read, or heard about it?
