Hi all,

Thank you for all the advice and help on my engine issue. Just a quick note to
say that I believe it to be resolved. We were towed in (we have TowBoat US full
membership) primarily because a strong north wind and cold front was coming in
and our anchorage was very unprotected from the North and I wasn't totally sure
it was the raw water pump. Better to be safe than sorry as Ed noted.

As many of you pointed out my pump has a 1/4 gap with a slinger to prevent
water entry into the oil pan so I was doubtful that that much sea water could
have entered the crankcase with that built in safety gap. But I had raw water
pump rebuild kit on board with the updated seals from the Westerbeke service
bulletin and was able to rebuild the pump (a fairly simple task) only needing a
vice to press the bearings.

I've changed the oil several times and ran the engine under load tied to the
dock for about an hour and the problem hasn't repeated itself. I will also make
it routine to close the raw water seacock each night and keep the key on the
seacock to help prevent such an issue. I'm 75% sure that it was the issue and
not the wet exhaust because there was no hydraulic lock on the cylinders and we
we're in following seas.

After the cold front blows through we'll move along and hope no more issues
crop up.

Thanks again,
Matt
