Since you are overhauling the pump, consider installing a "slinger" on the
pump shaft.

This is a thick rubber washer tight around the shaft between the water and
the oil seals to sling any leaking water off the shaft before it gets to
the oil seal.

Also, as I have done on my genset, put some material around the pump
housing in this area to prevent salt water from being sprayed around and
getting into places where it will do harm, like the alternator.  I used a
piece of clear vinyl, like used in dodger windows, wrapped loosely around
the pump housing where the drain ports are and held together with a snap
fastener.  It has a shape like an upside down teardrop with the point
having the snaps hanging down.  It is cheap, simple and works great.
