Hi Lee,

I can't talk to the phone issue, but I can relate my experience with the
Nook. First I was reluctant to go with the Kindle because Amazon requires
that any book you want to read has to be sent to them for formatting. I
believe this is a free service but does require you deal with them
exclusively. I bought my Nook from the Barnes & Noble store in Lynnwood WA.
I explained to the store personnel that I resided in Japan and was assured I
would have no trouble downloading books. That happens to be not true.
Copyright law comes into play when you try to purchase a book while
overseas. If that title has not been licensed for foreign sales you will not
be able to download the book through a foreign ISP. Barnes & Noble and
Amazon both check your ISP's address and will deny the download if it is
outside the U.S. I ended up buying a Sony Ereader. It is more expensive but
Sony will send the books to your overseas ISP as long as your credit bills
to a U.S. address. It's also lighter and smaller than the Nook. I am very
happy with mine. It goes everywhere with me. Of course if you are only
interested in books that are out of copyright or the many/many free books
available for down load the above shouldn't stop you from buying the reader
of choice.

I hope my experience is of some help to you.

Currently boatels but still hoping.

Subject: [Liveaboard] Phone in Bahamas

I am interested in having a phone/handheld mobile/I Phone etc and a
Kindle/Nook for use in Bahamas. Met one person that says his ATT phone has
free Bahamas use for $5 extra monthly. Will be checking this out.
What about mobile internet via 3G network? I see Americans using them in
Bahamas, do they have a $200/week bill when they get home?
Does the Kindle/Nook download books in Bahamas?
Thanks
Lee Haefele
