Just as likely they don't have a clue. Various utility company 
configurations can provide slightly different voltages at the user end. 
I'm not expert, but I think if they are getting 208v from a utility 
company "delta" transformer, then they probably also get (ie. can 
provide) 115-120v OK but I don't believe they can provide 240v - only 
208v. Most people (clerks, sales people, etc) don't encounter higher 
voltages enough to realize there may be different ones - for them, over 
200v  it all looks the same! <g> Lew can probably clarify better than I.
