Ah - reminds me of similar things with cracked distributor caps on
1970s Chevies. Unless you knew about them, they were _very_ hard to
diagnose (random stuttering problems, lack of power, occasional unburned
fuel, dying after running for a while... a whole raft of nonsense.)
Often, they were hairline-thin, too.

I recall some really tricky problems that I ran into when I was racing
- ignition systems get *truly* weird under load unless they're set up
just right - but I don't think those are applicable here.
