Opening up the caps and having a look is the only way I know of to find
out if one cell is using a lot of water. 

I was thinking of getting a watering system but decided against it
because of the cost and the fact that more than a few people reported
breakage after a year or two of use.

I'm sticking with the simple solution. Once a month check and hand
watering.
