Yes things like.  Sting Rays would go through a lot of thinner shoes.  Waders 
are out.  Not only are the soles to thin but if I bend over they will fill with 
water.

When I'm going into the water where there are rocks and stuff I

If you are worried about critters, then wear hiking boots and tuck
your trouser legs into them.
