I just had an experience which once again shows how much we're penalized.

Background: Having been into slips in the past where there was only 50A
shore power pedestals, I either had to wait for the marina staff to come up
with a 30A splitter or adapter, or move slips. So I decided to bite the
bullet and buy and carry my own 50A splitter (50A shore-side to a pigtail of
2-30A boat-side plugs). So I ordered a Marinco (#153AY) splitter. I was
looking at the 50A end and saw it was imprinted "50A, 120/240V".

So I did some checking and discovered that while the larger, newer marinas
all provide the 50A 120/240 pedestals, there were still a huge amount of
older marina's with 50A, 120V pedestals. So I called Jamestown Distributors
and found out that if I wanted an "adaptor" to use my "120/240" plug in a
straight "120" pedestal it would cost close to $250 - which was more than I
paid for the 50A, 120/240V splitter!!!!!!!!

That’s all.... I just had to rant a little!!!
