Unless I'm misreading the situation, the failure happened because of
poor design on the manufacturer's part. Just gluing it will most likely
bring you back to the original situation - a failure waiting to happen
again. It might be a good idea to consider how to beef it up so that it
doesn't break loose again, especially since getting to it is such a big
deal. A lot of times, a quarter ounce of 5200 or epoxy with chopped
strand in it makes a dramatic difference.

I don't know if it's possible to either communicate that to your guy, or
whether you have the option of working alongside him, but it's something
to consider. The ocean isn't known for forgiving fragility. :)
