Yes, I did exactly this. This saved 25 MB from the ISO size. But this also made the non-XFT font setup very crippled (read: unusable). From now on, applications that need fonts like -misc-fixed-medium-r-normal--18-120-100-100-c-90-iso8859-1 will fail to find such fonts. Such applications are usually broken WRT i18n anyway, and shouldn't be present on the LiveCD.

This removal has absolutely no effect on applications that use Xft, e.g. on all gtk2 apps.

Whoops. This (?) also causes Firefox and Thunderbird to segfault on startup. Will fix after more investigation.
