Hi, I know this sounds somewhat ridiculous, but is there any way one could boot from a "live floppy" (or some such) and get the same functionality as a "live cd" by for instance, having the contents of the "live cd" copied to a certain partition on the hdd.
The reason I ask is because, the CDROM in my ThinkPad 390x is quite flaky (as in gives up reading on most cds) and I don't have any plans to replace the same anytime in the near future. As a result, if I could use the floppy to boot the "live cd" upto a point from where it could start reading contents off a specified partition on the hdd, I could effectively and quite easily follow the instructions upto BLFS. I've already tried using a proper "live cd" (few months ago), and I faced I/O problems very frequently. Alternately I have a PCMCIA network card and access to several GNU/Linux machines connected to the internet. So if I could somehow perform a network boot or a boot from a floppy and perform a pseudo-network install kind-of procedure it could be useful. I appreciate any sugggestions/pointers you may have in this regard. Thanks! __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo!
