Not to be off topic, but I know debian has a minimal install that uses
floppies and gets packages off the net, you can use that to make a
minimal system which you can use to get the LFS packages... although
at that point you might just want to get another distro... that might
not be an option without the CD. I don't know how many floppies debian
uses but I'm sure it's not more than 8 or something.

At the same time I know one of the ALFS projects downloads sources on
it's own... I don't know it's dependancies though, that might be a
choice after a small debian install.
