Dear co-listers:
I've put my hands on a IBM Vetvista X41 (P/N: 6274-23G). I have some
experience on unix-linux-LFS, but I can't install a linux distro on this
hardware.
LFS live cd 6.0 aborts with:
Reading disc...Looking for /.cdrom/LFS
/dev/hdbKernel panic: Attempted to kill init!
LFS live cd 6.1-3 aborst after repeating several times:
hdb: media error (bad sector): status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
hdb: media error (bad sector): status=0x30 { LastFailedSense=0x03 }
...
This probably means that your IDE or SCSI controller is not supported.
LFS 6.0 and LFS 6.1 detect a ICH2 IDE controller.
Fedora Core 3 & Fedora Core 4 boots OK, but after a few prompts claims
the Fedora Core CD isn't on CDROM drive (it's there, of course).
I could install Debian Woody (kernel 2.2) who says IDE controller is
unknown. But ¿how to install a LFS 6.0/LFS 6.1 with a kernel 2.2?
Of course, all this distros has been booted without problems on other
platforms. IBM says the mother board mounts a Ultra ATA Intel Controller.
I've deactivated «High Performance» in IDE at BIOS.
I've probed boot options
ide0=dma
ide0=autotune
ide0=noautotune
hdb=dma
hdb=autotune
hdb=noautotune
without success.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance
J.C.
