It prints nothing because at that point your scripts have set the lang,
locale, timezone and keyboard and we've activated a new shell, erasing
any previous variables. I have already said, I've tested it, and it
works. I'll upload a minimal iso I built recently so you can test it
yourself.
No, it doesn't. Check yourself:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ qemu -cdrom
/mnt/lfs/lfs-livecd/lfslivecd-x86-6.2-pre4.iso -serial stdio
(isolinux shows its screen, but qemu prints nothing on stdout)
Then let the CD boot, and type this command:
echo foo >/dev/ttyS0
qemu happily prints "foo". So isolinux doesn't work with the serial port.
Sorry, but qemu isn't conclusive proof enough for me. David (the Braille
user that requested these features) had tested the 6.0 CD which used
this setting in ISOLINUX, and I believe he said it worked just fine.
When I get home later tonight, I'll set up a serial cable to connect two
computers, start up the livecd on one of them and run screen on the
other to see what I get. I'll also email David and ask for his feedback
again.
AFAIK we disabled the builtin serial port it due to hangs. It is a
module, and I don't know whether udev loads it.
Right, I thought I remembered something of the sort. Thanks for the
confirmation.
