This is a LiveCD specific bug resulting from a patch that makes any
attempt to exceed the DDC-probed maximum dot clock an error. In your
case, the monitor reports its limit as 0 MHz. It is useless to search
Xorg wiki for a solution for this LiveCD-specific problem.
This bug will not be fixed until I get a working Internet connection at
my primary job location (see
http://archives.linuxfromscratch.org/mail-archives/lfs-dev/2006-June/057577.html
and
http://archives.linuxfromscratch.org/mail-archives/livecd/2006-September/004008.html,
the promises are "this will happen in a month or so") or until someone
pays me a sum of money that is enough to download all packages from home
and upload the resulting CD (that's approximately $100).
You can work around the problem on your computer by building the LFS
LiveCD 6.2-3 from SVN (be sure to use that exact tag) and editing
packages/Xorg-modular/Makefile. Comment out line 192, which says "patch
-Np1 -i ../$(PATCH1)".
This will not be the official fix, because this reopens many other bug
reports.
