This sequence generates a warning saying that the second store has no effect:
*(uint8_t*)address = (uint8_t)big;
*(uint16_t*)address = (uint16_t)big;
This is a bug, but not the kind of bug that is being reported. The second
store is completely overwriting the first store, so we should be getting a dead
assignment error, not an idempotent operation error.
