Does this approach seem reasonable or need changes? Should it be a
MidiClient or is MidiClientRaw ok?

I made another change to allow setting multiple inputs but I can't work
out how to make the device selection menu show up.

I'm also a bit conflicted as to whether jack midi really needs multiple
inputs. You can feed multiple devices into the one input port with jack,
it's just that you want to make sure each device is on a separate midi
channel, I'm not sure a limit of 16 devices is going to upset many people.
