Sorry for the double post, but many applications, such as GIMP change their
splash screen between major revisions. Same logo, different splash.
This splash variation is a quick visual to the user if an outdated version
is running before going to Help, About.
Here's a mock-up, using green in a sort of "spray painted" feel.

I wouldn't be opposed to actually making a cardboard cutout and doing this
with bright green paint.
Currently, in NY the snow would make it hard for such an idea, but I want
to encourage those to remember that the new icon will likely remain the
same, but splash screen can (and probably should) change and to think of
ideas that may not have been thought of before. :)
