Thanks for your feedback, Tres! Very much appreciated. I'll address some
of those points here:

Optical illusion, they have exactly the same brightness as the buttons.
"Active" UI elements such as buttons and sliders are supposed to stand
out from the background, and I'm not sure if they really need to be
changed as they're very clear and easy to find the way they are now. If
anything, maybe the contrast could be lowered a bit, but not by much.
Personally I like the dark background on them, makes them look all
futuristic.

This is something that needs to be fixed in the code (or CSS, I'm not
sure yet). I'll look into it.

The problem is that the same icons are used in the title bars of the
different sidebar views, and flat icons wouldn't look very good there.
Some of those icons are also used as file icons in the file browsers, so
with so much overlapping use, there's bound to be some issues. That's
probably something that can be fixed for next version, as it requires
code changes. I'm not sure how much code changes I'm allowed to make,
now that we're in the "bugfixes only" phase... does this count as a bug
or is it just an aesthetic thing?
Also I wanted the sidebar button icons to be clear, as in the old theme,
it was always hard to find the right tab in the sidebar - at least now
it's very easy to see which one has samples, which one has presets, etc...

I think you just need to get used to them... letters would clutter the
UI IMO.

I have to disagree here. The play, stop (and record) buttons need to
grab more attention than the other icons, as they're a fundamental part
of the UI.

With time running out, I didn't do much for them, just a quick
recolourization/hue adjustment. Possibly we'll get new ones for next
version...
