Ok, so I went the MacPorts route and it was going pretty well until I hit a
few Clangs... :)

Basically the GNU code is throwing too many errors for Clang to compile
with so I think I need to switch my compiler back to gcc (or else we would
have to clang-out these compile errors which are likely to be all over the
place), but I'm having a hard time making heads or tails of the MacPorts
wiki:
