The advantages are mostly add-free downloads, and proper domain/site
integration. If we keep sourceforge (which I'm personally not entirely
against) any domain we buy would have to redirect there, sort of negating
the idea of having our own domain (right?)
Again, I personally have no issues with keeping sourceforge, but their
downloads page has grown terrible over the years. In one screenshot I had
two separate large green download buttons, neither of which downloads LMMS.
Also, as hosting questions have come up, we've asked about what services we
have available via sf and IIRC we never got response on it (presumably
because you were the only one who knew at that time and when we tried to
research it we hit some brick walls).
But in conversation, we've discussed getting our own hosting on several
occasions with what I've perceived to be much agreement. From what I can
see, this tuxfamily provider seems to fit the bill similar to how sf does,
but with much more control over the host, more capabilities, and a better
alignment of software freedoms.
The only downside to tuxfamily that I can see is availability. They have
several crashes logged in their news section which took them down for a day
or so. Sf would likely have better tolerance for that.
