As long as the pencil tool allows it, I'm fine with disabling the
chord-type buttons if that is what's being suggested.

I'm no fan of a GUI that restricts drawing with a pencil tool.  If the
drawing is ineffective it may be a good incentive to put a visual indicator
to the user which notes will/wont be played so they can move or delete.

I use and reuse tracks a lot hunting for the right sound, so I'd rather we
tackle this without crippling the creative process, as we don't know what
the intention of the note laying is, and it could very well be switched to
3x Osc or something poly at any time.

Also, IIRC, Zyn can be mono if configured that way.  Not sure if that could
be argument for visual indicators over locked/limited GUI controls.
