To fathom a guess, he's just doing basic DOM manipulation by copying XML
segments in his project. It's automating the automator.
It circumvents limitations in the automation editor, specifically copy and
paste. Yes, having those separate segments is the same thing, but they can
get frustrating to copy and past over and over when composing. This
duplicates an existing pattern onto itself similar to how we would do with
piano roll. It also makes it a bit easier to make a slight variation of an
automation track but keep it in the same track. This is all stuff that
will most likely make it to the automation editor with time, but it's a
stop-gap because he found a solution to do it without actually fixing the
problem.
This is no different than the VST performance hacks I've used over the
years. They *should* be fixed in code, but until they are, we write these
one-off tricks.
