I do this a lot.  The only way I can get the SF2s to play on several
computers is to use the samples folder.

I just made a sound fonts folder to organize them within the samples and
they seem to import to other computers just fine.

I sync the LMMS home folder using Google Drive and then set my preferences
to use that as the default location and it works flawlessly (vsts still use
absolute paths, so MOSTLY flawlessly).

For Ubuntu, we use the InSync client for connecting to google drive.
