Hey guys, lurker here. I too like this project a lot and am very
interested in seeing it take off.

I have a thought about the branding.

Some time ago there was a company called Kentucky Fried Chicken that had a
branding problem similar to ours. Their name was outdated. They didn't
want to be associated with Kentucky anymore. The public's perception of
the word "fried" had changed, linking it to obesity and malnutrition. But
they didn't want to completely overhaul their branding. They had put a lot
of work into their current brand and there was still a lot of value in it,
although it was declining. Their solution? They decided to officially go
with the acronym: KFC. Most people were already familiar with the acronym
anyways, as people had been using it for years. It was short and had the
potential to be branded back into a different name in the future if the
need arose (which they tried to do with the "Kitchen Fresh Chicken"
initiative, which has largely been a failure).

Linux Multi-Media Studio could just be branded as LMMS. We just drop all
the words from it and go with the acronym officially. Remove all mentions
of "Linux" (other than yes, that's a platform that is supported, and maybe
a brief historical mention on the wiki that it used to be called something
else). We already have lots of LMMS branded assets. All the users already
call it LMMS, which sounds pretty cool and is easy to remember. It may not
exactly be the world's biggest brand, but by adopting the acronym, we don't
throw out our existing brand value with the rename.
