OK Thanks.

That's three people reporting this - you , Dennis, and apparently
Ralf M. in the LAU list.

I'll review Dennis' error log posting today, never got around
 to investigating it.

Any further logs or error outputs appreciated - Dennis ran with
  double debug output -D -D.
And he said his was a single core 32-bit machine, and the error
happened only with ALSA without even Jack running,
using MusE as a straight sequencer.

So much for my theory of multi-core problems...

PS. Recording some material, I realized that it is still difficult
 to edit midi notes sometimes.
Someone requested that the LEFT edge of notes be movable.
Agreed. Also I will try to add another entry box called 'Position'
along side the 'Start' and 'Length' and 'Velocity on/off'
boxes, so that the left edge of notes can be moved.
Also I will try to add a ctrl button detection so that
when dragging the edge of notes, they do NOT snap to
the grid when released. I found it a real pain to have to
keep changing the snap from 16 to off and back again...

Tim.
