Indeed, that was the whole idea with the platform_independence branch, I
actually had it compiling under windows at one point, hardly working though
:). Most of it is too old now to be salvagable but I always wanted to bring
over these low hanging fruits.

It pretty much fails for all soundfonts I try, just to be sure I did a test
song:

When loading this song it often works the first time but reloading it gives
the following error:
SOUNDFONT FILENAME + PATH /home/ddskrjo/fluidtest3/juno106-0.1.sf2

fluidsynth: error: Unable to open file ""
fluidsynth: error: Couldn't load soundfont file
fluidsynth: error: Failed to load SoundFont ""

If you cant reproduce it in a few tries, your system is probably not
affected and I need to look elsewhere for the solution
