Al final este Patrick es un mala onda, malco.... Te entiendo (hasta cierto punto) lo de que no le permita usar el nombre de Slackware a los pibes. Supongo que es una marca registrada y tiene todo el derecho de retener el nombre. Ahora, pensar que los pibes le van a robar gente de la lista es un poquito paranoico. Ellos solo quieren crear una redistribucion de slack precompilada como i686!!!! Y ac� viene el otro tema: Como es posible que un archivo que diga i386 en slack, no sea un verdadero i386????, sino un i686. Eso significa que si quiero correr un slack liviano en una 386 no me va a andar ni para atras?? Falsa promesa de un sistema mas rapido????????? Evidentemente el pibe no prob� gentoo vs otras distros en una celeron 466 con 64mb. Los que me conocen y siguen mis comentarios sobre las pruebas de distros en los desktops, entender�n porque me parece extra�o este comentario. Yo no prob� slack, como para decir que no es mas rapido un sistema compilado en la misma arquitectura que usas, que el slack. Pero probando sistemas, inclusive mandrake que est� compilado para i586 (y cada paquete dice i586) no es mas rapido que un sistema compilado para tu arquitectura. No me estoy basando en benchmarks. Me estoy basando en el uso diario del sistema como desktop. PD: entre la seb (sin energia bariloche) que me corta la luz dos dias seguidos y no me deja compilar el openoffice, y ese mail que me mand� cris, ya estoy recaliente...... I'm sorry, but I will not grant permission to use the Slackware name in this way, or for your domain name. If you do this project, you'll have to avoid any use of the "Slackware" registered trademark. I don't think this is unreasonable. You're talking about competing for our community support, and potentially taking away some of our users (and the support to the Slackware project that they bring). Furthermore, we already optimize everything in Slackware for the i686 architecture (there's -mcpu=i686 in nearly every build script already). Only the kernel uses i486, but most people compile their own anyway. Many people see "i386" in the package names and think they are not optimized, but this is false. Try some benchmarks (with a proper kernel) and you'll see. I hope you'll reconsider the idea of diluting the Slackware user base with what I believe is essentially a false promise of a faster system. It's dangerously marketable though (look at Gentoo).
