I was just wondering though, what about customs fees etc? I'd like to

Customs fees depends on your local laws and in India it changes very
frequently. The various section head under which they tax are varied,
confusing and also ridiculously expensive.

order 500 or so, as we have several FOSS conferences coming up.
However, would we have to pay a huge amount on customs clearing etc?

I am guessing yes, 500 will be very expensive. I was taxed (in India)
for the 55 CD's which costs more than the cost of burning them. Btw, I
am not taking into account the hassles and the time wasted at the
customs office. So it will be very helpful if you have a good basic
knowledge of local laws to counter that and get it for free.

Btw, the -- I am giving it FREE to school kids / charity / whatever --
line does not work with the customs officers (who dont really care
what you do with the CD as long as you pay the tax)

The biggest amount I've ever ordered is 10, but a friend had also
managed 40 without any customs fee.

10-15 CD's are not usually taxed, but my friend was charged for
packaging and octroi for 10 Cd's which may be due to the changes in
the Indian budget this year. Since the laws are different in each
country please check locally.

Hope that helps.
