Hi Yann, Hi List,

Yann I realy like the idea of an ubuntu community
non-profit-organsation. I only can speak for the german locoteam. For
the german locoteam it was a great sucess to found the local association
two years ago. Since this time we had one problem less and that is how
to cover costs inside the locoteam. We are no able to print german
flyers(15.000 in two years), make ubunut shirts(1000), ubuntu dvds(800),
to cover cost for fairs and shipping. We also get hardware for fairs
sponsored from a company.

So the daily work is now much easier. If somebody runs a local event he
can request everything he need from the locoteam. And we have the
possibility to send him what he need.

Another thing is that we have now an insurance for all events we make.
So nobody is libale longer for the event, it is allways the association.
And in germany that quite a good thing.
Also the accountability for our forum is now on the assocation.
So there are no personal risks if you are active for ubuntu you don't
have to finance it privat(but many people still doing it) and you are
not liable for the booth or the event(liable only means the legal liable
not the personal to the ubuntu project;))

With the association it is much easier for us to collect donations,
because people are asking who the donation get. We can say it goes to
the german ubuntu assocation and people are happy and sometimes they
donate more.

So I think if we have one ubuntu community non-profit-organisation we
can bring all this benefits to all locoteams. At the moment every
locoteam has to found his own assocation if they think they need it.
But this cost a lot of manpower and money. So I like the global idee.
There are much more advantages of this global organsation. The
organisation can produce merchandising, can offer selfpressed cds/dvds
etc. Another thing is that with this organsation donations from "rich"
locoteams can go to locoateams who needs donations for localise flyers
or marketing stuff. The organisation also can offer sponsorships for UDS
and other ubuntu related conferences.
So I think this is a step to a self controlled ubuntu community.

I hope the discussion about this idea keeps one and I think one day
there will be something like an ubuntu community
non-profit-organisation.

regards

julius
