Thank you both for your help I was able to successfully build the files on VS2010 using VS2008 as an intermediate point.

Problem of importing a VS6 project into VS2010 is not limited to the Express edition, we have the Professional edition and still had to use VS2008 as an intermediate point. Another point when migrating to VS2010. VS2010 has some differences in the directory search paths. In particular, some of the PC-specific paths are now part of the project settings.
