I like the idea of designating a last release that officially supports JDK
1.1. But it doesn't have to be a previous release. For example, Ceki's
release plan for log4j 1.2 could include the JDK 1.2 requirement. We could
keep compatibility throughout the minor releases of log4j 1.1 and then let
go of JDK 1.1 in log4j 1.2.
