Having thought about this some more, I'm not entirely sure that my patch is
the way to go.

Might be best to allow a System property mechanism to define the additional
L&F's to install on initialisation, and then just provide a Menu item to
allow the user to select a particular L&F that Swing recognizes.  Also store
the chosen L&F in the preferences and us that if set on startup.
