I can change the link to http://archive.apache.org/dist/jakarta/log4j/archives from the current link. However, the users will still getting the files from http://archive.apache.org/dist/jakarta/log4j/archives , not from one of its mirrors. Or am I missing something?
no, you're not missing anything :)
at the moment, archive.apache.org is not mirrored. if the traffic to archive.apache.org becomes too great then (i think that) infrastructure will provide mirrors. the important thing is that archive.apache.org is the right place for archived releases. by linking to there, we allow infrastructure to manage this issue.
