Chainsaw uses log4j's layout mechanism for rendering the detail panel. The Layouts do not pretend to be thread safe, because they are generally used by one appender, which is already guarded for thread safety. I noticed this bug myself yesterday, and I'll fix Chainsaw to prevent this error occuring. (A new build is getting prepared. Maybe within the week).
