Thanks for looking into this. I added 2.0-beta9 to the affected versions. You 
mention you are seeing the same problem, is that problem #1 or #2? (Or both?)

Does this problem happen with a web application or with a stand-alone java 
application? (Details on java version, web container version, OS, etc may be 
useful.)

Just judging from the error stack trace, it looks as if the appender is trying 
to write to a file that has been closed.
Would it be possible for you to provide a small program that reproduces the 
issue?
