Hi Raju, Thank you for taking time and looking into my problem.
once I added the directory which contained the log4j.properties into the classpath of the webserver, The logging from classes accessed through servlets started working. Thanks a lot again. I want to know one more thing, I came across products like chainsaw and lumbermill which can be used by log4j to send messages to.
