1. Cambridge Research Study of LPI
LPI is the subject of a research study by the Judge Institute of Management at the
University of Cambridge, England. This study will compare the use of information and communication technologies (ICT) amongst three international organizations: the World Health Organization, the Linux Professional Institute and a transnational pharmaceutical company.
President Evan Leibovitch was interviewed at Cambridge in July for the study while he was in England completing discussions on a potential LPI-UK affiliate. LPI Board member and LPI-J President, Gen Narui was interviewed for this study in August and other interviews with senior LPI personnel are planned for the new future.

Jamaica:
The Caribbean Linux and Open Source Foundation (CLOSF) was avarded a US$60,000 grant from the Institute for the Connectivity of the Americas (ICA) for development of linux certification and training initiatives in the region. Bulgaria:
In July Free Software Association Bulgaria granted its first LPI certificates in Bulgaria. Fifteen people received these prestigeous documents. We wish them all the best in their professional development!
¨As a result from the voluntary work of the society, these candidates are now the first LPI certified
system administrators.", said Stanimir Ivanov, LPI-Bulgaria’s official spokesman. "We think that one of the ways to provide business and governmental support for the use of free and open source software is to
guarantee that there are specialists with high qualification in this field."

5. Translated Exams:
Another reminder. LPI has translated the Level 1 exams into French, Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese and German.
We are looking for candidates to take these translated exams at a 25% discount until Sept 30th 2004 at any Prometric testing site around the world.
Please use the code "25beta" when registering at www.prometric.com for these exams in the above mentioned languages. When registering for the exam please read the payment information page carefully, it will show you where to input the code to receive the 25% discount.
In the translated exams, you will be able to access the English versions of the questions. When you take the exam, please include any feedback that will improve our translations. These exams are valid for certification.
