LPI Offers Certification Testing at LinuxWorld Johannesburg, South Africa (Toronto, Ontario, May 8, 2006) – The Linux Professional Institute (LPI), (http://www.lpi.org), the world's premier Linux certification organization will provide certification testing during LinuxWorld Johannesburg, South Africa on Thursday May 18, 2006. This will also be the first event in which the exam for the Ubuntu Professional Certification will be offered. Paid conference delegates will receive their certification testing free as part of their conference fee (a $150 US value) while those attending the trade show will be able to take the Ubuntu or LPI exams at a discounted fee of 300 Rand.
The exams will be offered at Boardroom 1-2-3, Level 2 of the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg on Thursday, May 18, 2006 at the following times: for LPI exam 101--10:00 and 14:00; for LPI exam 102--12:00 and 16:00; and the Ubuntu Professional Certification exam will be offered solely at 14:00. LPI exams 101 and 102 are required to obtain the LPIC-1 Certification. LPIC-1 and the Ubuntu Professional exam are requirements to obtain the Ubuntu Professional Certification. The exam sessions will be hosted by the LPI affiliate in South Africa, The Shuttleworth Foundation: "We are very excited at the prospect of being the first test site for the Ubuntu Professional exam. Given that both exams for LPIC are being offered together with the Ubuntu exam we may also see that one of the day's exam takers will become the world's first Ubuntu Professional," said Karien Bezuidenhout of The Shuttleworth Foundation. Exam candidates must pre-register on the LPI website at https://www.lpi.org/en/register.html to receive a LPI identification number and must bring valid photo identification and their LPI ID number to the exam events. Those candidates interested in preparing to take the Ubuntu Professional exam are invited to review the exam objectives at: http://www.ubuntu.com/partners/certification/pro. LPI will also be represented by The Shuttleworth Foundation at an information booth in the exhibition area during LinuxWorld Johannesburg. Conference attendees and trade show visitors are invited to meet with representatives of The Shuttleworth Foundation at booth L23 to obtain more information on the LPI Certification program and the Ubuntu Professional Certification. Glenn McKnight, Director of Operations for LPI, will also be attending the event and working with local volunteers following LinuxWorld Johannesburg to host an item-writing session for further development of LPIC-1 and LPIC-2 exam questions.
