Technology in United Arab Emirates

(Abu Dhabi, UAE: November 4, 2008) The Linux Professional Institute
(LPI), the world's premier Linux certification organization
(http://www.lpi.org), hosted an educational seminar at United Arab
Emirates (UAE) prestigious Higher Colleges of Technology
(http://www.hct.ac.ae) on the subject of Open Source adoption and LPI
certification. The seminar held at the High Colleges of Technology, Abu
Dhabi Men’s College (ADMC) is part of LPI's recent initiatives to expand
its certification programs in the region.

"We have had the opportunity of meeting with many academic deans,
faculty and directors of post-secondary programs while in the United
Arab Emirates. We also had several discussions with IT business leaders
in the region. The interest and enthusiasm around the adoption of Open
Source Software is very high and we expect to see substantial growth in
Linux professionalism in this region in both the immediate and long
term," said Jim Lacey, President and CEO of LPI, following the seminar
presentation at ADMC. The seminar also touched on a number of subjects
including upcoming trends and opportunities in Linux and Open Source
Software, IT workforce development, and the growing importance of LPI
certification in the advancement of Linux professionalism.

“At Abu Dhabi Men’s College we are committed to training our future
leaders with the skills employers seek to ensure that they enter the
workforce job-ready” said Dr. Simon Jones, Director, ADMC. “Industry
professional certifications prepare our students to meet the standards
set by industry and introduce state of the art technologies and best
practices to our students”.

Representatives of LPI also attended the Gitex conference
(http://www.gitex.com), the largest gathering of IT professionals in the
region where they met with a number of IT business leaders. LPI is
seeking partnership opportunities with commercial and educational
institutions throughout the Middle East to enhance Linux educational
opportunities. Feras Abou Shackra, Managing Director of LPI-Middle East
stated that many students and faculty members have expressed interest in
adopting the LPI certification program and he has also noted an
exceptional response from existing LPI alumni in the region to support
these and other initiatives.
