All:

Eric is correct.  You can take the exams in any order you want. 
However, you won't be granted the higher level certification until you 
earn the lower one.

So take and pass the exams in any order--but the certification path is 
still LPIC-1 ->  LPIC-2 ->  LPIC-3

You'd be surprised by how many people actually take the exams in an 
unconventional order ;-)
