The point of having exam centers in the first place is not so much to make it more inconvenient for you to take the exam, but really to ensure as far as reasonably possible that the person whose name goes onto the certificate is identical with the person who is actually taking the exam, and that there is no cheating going on. Writing software to present multiple-choice exams isn't exactly rocket science, so the real service Pearson VUE is paid to perform on behalf of LPI is essentially (a) checking your ID and (b) trying to prevent hanky-panky in the exam room. In other words, if it was in fact possible to take the exam on your own PC at home, there would be no way of keeping you from inviting all your LPI guru friends over for beer, pizza, and a fun LPI session where everybody discusses the answers to the question on your exam (with man pages and Google in the background on everyone's laptop or smartphone). This is not really how LPI thinks the exams should go, hence Pearson VUE. Anselm (speaking for himself, not his employer or LPI.) -- Anselm Lingnau ... Linup Front GmbH ...
