As brielfy as I can state it, membership is the 'unit' of control over the
governance of LPI itself. This includes voting for new board members and
being able to have members nominate you for the ballot. Non-members can
also apply to the Nomination Committee to get on a second ballot, too.

An announcement about this year's elections was just emailed to people on
our newsletter lists this morning: https://www.lpi.org/elections/2022

As for the "PDU system", this exists for two reasons. The first being that
members need to have a valid/active LPI certification in order to become
and stay a member. Participating and submitting PDUs will keep your
certifications active. Otherwise, you would eventually have to (re)take
some exams in order to maintain LPI membership eligibility.

The second reason for the PDUs are that they provide demonstrable, audited
and provable evidence that you've been using your credentials in a
professional setting and learning tech (and tech-adjacent) topics beyond
the baseline in the LPI certifications.

This is great to hear. Congratulations, too.

When you join LPI (or start a new 3 year PDU cycle), your credentials'
active dates are extended by the length of your membership. You can pick 1
or 3 years at a time. And renew for a total of 3 years. During those 3
years, you only need to submit PDUs if you want to renew your membership
and extend the credentials by up to 3 more years. Otherwise, your certs
will go inactive and you'll lose your eligibility for membership.

What would be the most suitable next step to clarify these doubts?

You have a few options here.

1. Retake the LPIC-2 exams or one of the LPIC-3 exams before they go
inactive. This will extend your LPIC-2 by 5 years, per usual.

2. Join LPI as a member. Your certifications' active dates will be
extended by the length of your membership with PDUs only being required
over the next 3 years _if_ you want to renew your membership 3 years from
now (and you haven't retaken LPIC-2 or earned an LPIC-3).

3. Let your certs go inactive. At some point in the future, you can
'reactivate' them by submitting some PDUs from the prior 12 months (the
only time we look backwards) and join LPI as a member. Your membership and
certifications' active dates then progress as in #2 above.

Here's some additional info about the membership program, too:
