Hi Fabian,

This is off topic, but is there any update on when the LPIC 2 exams will be
refreshed? I know this was announced a little over a year ago.

Thanks,
Josh

Dear all,

I've got something exciting to share with you.

You've probably noticed that we are extending our Essentials certificate track,
and I'd like to get your thoughts on the next exam/certificate that we'd like
to add: Open Source Essentials.

The certificate should cover the non-technical aspects of open source software,
to provide a specific set of common knowledge that anyone working with open
source software should have, independently of their personal background.
Imagine a developer telling a lawyer about forks and merges, while the lawyer
responds with a talk about derivative works and copyleft. With the new cert,
we'd like to establish some common vocabulary, provide learning materials to
obtain this knowledge, as well as a test and a certificate to prove it. This
certificate is placed at the essentials track because it is no 'job' on its
own, but rather an add-on to any kind of other job that can be executed with
regards to open source.

That said, we have an early objectives draft ready for review and commenting:

  https://wiki.lpi.org/wiki/Open_Source_Essentials_Objectives_V1.0

Thanks to all who have contributed to this document and already shared their
initial feedback. Now we would like to open it up to you. What do you think?
What would you add, change or drop? The draft is pretty packed right now, which
may not necessarily be a bad thing, given that we stay on Essential level in
what we teach and test.

I'd be glad if you'd take a look at the draft and share your thoughts. Please
share them either here or at https://discuss.lpi.org. I will monitor both
platforms, but I assume that the main discussion will happen here.

Finally, if you'd like to help with content creation (writing exam questions or
learning materials, helping in reviews or translations), please let me or
Markus know directly.

Looking forward to your thoughts,

Fabian
