I know this Open Source Essentials cert topic has been quiet lately, but I
haven't been ignoring it. In fact, as soon as I saw what was coming down
the pipe, I decided to get to work creating a book and Udemy course
covering the objectives. Which means that I've spent a lot of time thinking
about the objectives
<https://wiki.lpi.org/wiki/Open_Source_Essentials_Objectives_V1.0>.
In fact, the reason I've nevertheless been quiet in that context is that,
try as I might, I haven't been able to find anything substantial to
criticize. The objectives really do cover a lot of good ground. Making sure
the candidate understands the possible legal implications of licensing
issues (can you spell "Oracle v. Google"?) and has a basic familiarity
with, say, compilers and deployment platforms - even if he's not the one
doing the coding and deploying - seems smart.
If I were thinking about starting my own OS development project, I would
definitely want to make sure I'm up to speed on all of these objectives -
not to mention I'd definitely purchase my book and course at twice
the going rate. :)
Any updates on the cert's development status?
