Hi all,
I'm new to this group so greetings to you all.
My 2c on the Apache question: I believe it is more important that people
know what to look for than necessarily where it might (or might not) be
found on a given distribution. This is for two reasons.
1. The average junior sysadmin may not have access to all the distributions
LPI considers 'important'
2. The location may change even on a single distribution
An example: I was administering an RH6 system with Apache's files in
/home/httpd. On updating the Apache installation, the location chaged to
/www. To work out what was going on, the most important things I needed to
know were:
- How to identify Apache's configuration files
- How to determine from httpd.conf the locations of the document and server
roots
Given this knowledge, the specific locations could be accurately determined
on a system by system basis, which I think is more useful and important
than remembering them parrot fashion.
Hope this helps.

Subject: Objective 1.113.3: Operate and perform basic configuration of
apache
Hi,
The default location for apache files, eg HTML, cgi-bin, etc, has moved
around from places like /home/httpd (under RH6.x and 7.0) to /var/www on
other distributions.
I suggest that LPIC-1 candidates should know the likely places that
these files and directories will be found in on different distributions.
I expect that Linux professionals are likely to see distributions from
RH6.0 through 7.2 and 8 during the lifetime of these tests, as well as
Debian 2.2rX and maybe earlier, Slackware 7.1 and 8, Mandrake 6,7,8, and
so on.
