Hello all,

Good work on the 1.101 stuff. I tried to brainstorm a few more things to consider - be they worthwhile or not will, of course, take some consensus, but these are what occurred to me. They are also added inline in the poms module. Hopefully these comments are not too inappropriate, detailed, or otherwise stupid!

Objective 1.101.1: Configure Fundamental BIOS Settings

o Device boot order (CD, Floppy, SCSI, IDE, etc.)
o Power management settings
o Forcing an update of resources (ESCD)
o Use of the "PnP OS Installed" option (if applicable)
o Use of BIOS passwords (and how to clear them)

Objective 1.101.4: Setup SCSI devices

o Use of SCSI device termination (hardware & software)
o Differences in bus type (SCSI-50, SCA, LVD, etc)
o Viewing SCSI module boot messages for troubleshooting
o Use of SCSI LUNs in addition to SCSI ID's
o Use of MANY SCSI ID/LUN's (e.g. cd-changers, does it still require changing the maximum number of possible mounts?)

Objective 1.101.5: Setup different PC expansion cards

o Other BUS types: AGP especially video

Objective 1.101.6: Configure communication devices

o Multi-headed serial cards (digiboard, etc. w/ 4+ ports)
o Configuring getty on a serial port for dumb terminal login?
o Need for setting special default AT command set in modems for use on UNIX workstations?
o Configuring for *inbound* PPP?

Thanks,

Mark Lachniet

Michael has made fantastic progress in updating the objectives for 1.1 !
See the new (and updated) objectives here:

http://www.lpi.org/cgi-bin/poms.py?objlist=1.101

I made some comments on fixing grammar, punctuation, and some suggestions
on reading flow. I'd like the rest of the list to review these and comment
on them appropriately as well.

Topic maintainers: Some basic guides and new instructions.
commands, filenames.

for any code excerpts (if
applicable). Also, remember that 's isn't plural, that is possessive.
Objective Titles should be capitalized properly "Configuring Fundamental
Hardware". Also keep in mind that these objectives will be translated, so
"english-isms" from the way we speak don't translate well. If something
can be said in fewer word s (without extra "especiallys" 'reallys' and
"ands") the better it will likely translate.

Everyone, please take some time over the weekend to make comments so the
objective maintainers can make changes by Monday. This task is important
so we can move on to the next phase of identifying items within the Level
1 exams which need to be updated.

Thank-you!
