Hello list members

As a new member to the list I would like to make a comment on the wording of
the objectives in LPIC-1 and LPIC-2.

Most of the exiting objectives are worded as follows:

"Candidates *should* be able to ....."

This suggest to me - maybe they can, maybe they can't. It would be
difficult fo me to write test questions for that objective.

I am currently involved in writing IT courses for accreditation and have
used the following check to assist me in making sure my objectives can be
easily measured at asessment time.

Maybe they will be useful to you/maybe they will not ;-)

1. I use SMART Objectives - Objectives are Specific, Measureable,
Achieveable, Realistic and Timely.
2. I use active verbs to describe the action required.

Perhaps better objectives than "should be able to" would be ....

Candidates demonstrate .....
Candidates evaluate ...
Candidates select and implement ...
Candidates list ...
Candidates describe ...
Candidates identify ...
etc

Some more examples of the action verbs that I use:

a) To give evidence of knowledge
- define, describe, identify, list, outline, recall, select, organise,
match.

b) To give evidence of comprehension
- interpret, translate, estimate, clarify, explain, predict, summarise,
discuss,

c) To give evidence of the application of knowledge/understanding
- apply, solve, demonstrate, employ, operate, modify, predict, illustrate,
verify

d) To give evidence of analysis
- recognise, distinguish, evaluate, outline, compare, contrast, diagnose

e) To give evidence of synthesis
- arrange, assemble, organise, plan, design, revise, summarize, manage

f) To give evidence of creativity
- originate, invent, create, develop, devise,

g) To give evidence of evaluation
- evaluate, assess, appraise, compare, justify, question, measure

regards
