Maybe it's nice for private use, I never, really never saw something like this in productional use.

Uhm, I beg to disagree here. While noone in his right mind would try to use it for users to get their mail off to the main mailserver (be it in the company itself or provided by someone else), I saw uses for nullmailer/ssmtp and the like in complex server installations.

And: It's really simple to make this even with postfix or other MTAs. There's no need to use anything else.

That's true however. Given current distribution packages for MTAs, this is really extremely easy to achieve. And even when doing the configuration completely from scratch, the effort involved is minimal.

So to sum it up: I agree that you that something like ssmtp is not needed. I disagree however that it is never used in production systems.
